Made in America...Growing Strong Business June 4 at COD

The Center for Entrepreneurship at College of DuPage will host a "Made in America...Growing Strong Business" seminar from 8 am to 3:30 pm, on Tuesday, June 4, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000, on the College's main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn. This conference will feature two tracks running simultaneously - one geared toward established business owners and one for people starting new businesses. Each track will feature 4 sessions. Track 1: Established Businesses Paul Amberg and Bart McMillan Baker Mckenzie, from Baker McKenzie, will present "Compliance: ITAR and U.S. Export Control Reform." Attendees will learn how Export Administration Regulations (EAR) impact a business' efforts to expand into international markets. Rita Haake, Program Manager of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center at College of DuPage, will present "Government Market: Creating a Proposal." Participants are guided through the steps of creating effective proposals. Jeff Graber, from U.S. Commercial Services, will present "International: Maximizing Free Trade Agreements." Attendees learn how to use an online tool that enables importers and exporters to see how the tariffs on individual products are treated under specific agreements. Representatives from IMEC and College of DuPage Business Solutions will present "Lean Leadership and Planning." Attendees will learn how to implement management systems that change supervisors into proactive leaders of well-equipped teams. Track 2: New Businesses Luanne Mayorga, from the College of DuPage Center for Entrepreneurship, will present "Marketing: How to Create the Hub." Attendees will learn the importance of making their website the focal point of all marketing activities for their businesses. Rita Haake will present "Government Market: How to Prepare for your Future." Attendees learn how to move into the various levels of the government market. Raymond Smith, from Harris Bank, will present ""Financial Literacy: How to Speak Numbers." Attendees learn to assess the health of their businesses and ways to improve operations. Mitch Conn and Jenny Sheldon, from UPS, will present "Logistics: We made it! Now how do we get it there?" Attendees will learn about the differences between domestic and international shipping as well as considerations that should be taken into account when choosing carriers and destinations. Also during this conference, Jeff Graber, Rita Haake, Arthur O'Meara from O'Meara & Associates and Lisa Waller, from BDG International, will conduct a panel discussion entitled "Country of Origin," which will cover requirements for international shipping including the government's perspective, NAFTA compliance and the shipper's perspective. In addition, Shari Thurrow, author of "Search Engine Visibility," will deliver a keynote presentation covering best practices in search engine optimization during lunch. Admission to this conference is $70. An early bird rate of $45 is available to attendees who register and pay by May 1.
