Event Description
Michael Johnson has lived and more performed music and recorded more hits than you would imagine. His voice immediately identifies him as the man who sings Bluer Than Blue, Give Me Wings, and (with Alison Krauss) Whenever I Call You Friend. Michael’s music shows a diversity, depth and heart that only come from years of dedication to a labor of love. He started playing at age thirteen and just never quit. Singing, playing, writing and recording are the only things he's ever done and he loves it. He even studied classical guitar in Barcelona with eminent guitarist Graciano Tarrago. From the royalty check of 11 cents he received for the 23 copies his first album sold, to living in a garage with Steve Martin and Gary Mule Deer to joining the Chad Mitchell trio with John Denver and touring for a year, Michael Johnson’s life has had an undeniably fascinating bent. His numerous television appearances include “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Austin City Limits.”

Iowa native Carol Montag began singing and performing music in church and grew to love traditional hymns and liturgical songs. In high school she learned to play her sister’s guitar by ear listening to such folk music legends as Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, and Joan Baez, soon purchasing her own guitar. Carol played with a few acoustic bands as she continued to expand and explore her musical gifts in college. The guitar remained a constant companion after college, always close at hand, while she was working in graphic design. When music’s call intensified Carol began performing part time, playing her first paid gigs at a local Mexican restaurant in Cedar Rapids. When she began performing at colleges, coffeehouses, house concerts, churches, music festivals, and live radio shows, her course was clearly set. She has since been heard at the Old Town School of Folk Music and a wealth of other venues. Among the performers Carol has shared stages with or opened for are Arlo Guthrie, Jim Post, John Gorka and Tom Paxton who said, “Carol Montag is a genuine discovery! The best to come out of Iowa since Bonnie Koloc!”

Michael Johnson and Carol Montag are sure to warm you, heart and soul!
